ASF and IFP Thailand Alumni Network (IFP THAN) organized a public seminar on “ASEAN: Its impact and preparedness of the Esaan community” at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Khon Kaen University on September 30, 2012.
The seminar drew approximately 150 attendants from different age group whose works were involved at the community and institutional level located in widespread geographical areas in the Northeastern region. The day started with a traditional Esaan dance performed by a youth group from Nongbualumpu province.
The panelists kicked-off the first session with an introduction on ASEAN facts and figures followed by an interactive session on “Analysis of Current ASEAN Situation and Its Impact Towards Esaan Community” that allowed the participants to share experience and ask questions. Special interest groups were divided for the afternoon parallel sessions on Health & HIV, Environment and Resources, Agriculture and Adaptation, and Society: Culture, Woman, Youth, Elderly, and Education which were moderated by IFP THAN members whose areas of expertise were relevant to the subjects.
After the seminar was over, the participants reflected positively for this activity. They said the information was very useful for them especially those who did the community-based works. IFP THAN is planning to conduct similar activities in different provinces in the Northeast.
