On June 2-3, 2012, the Asian Scholarship Foundation under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn organized a workshop on “Introduction to Knowledge Management” for the alumni and fellows of the Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP). This activity was hosted in partnership with the IFP Thailand Alumni Network (IFP THAN) and the Institute for Knowledge and Innovation South-east Asia (IKI-SEA), Bangkok University.
The purpose of this workshop was to train the IFP fellows about the benefits of systematic management of knowledge as a resource for their future application and to promote a knowledge-based community of practice among IFP fellows and their local partners from the Northeast of Thailand.
Through the years, the IFP fellows and alumni have accumulated some valuable knowledge and experience that could be very useful not only to other IFP fellows among their group, but also to their respective community members. This workshop aimed to equip the participants with some tools and approaches that would help them better manage and leverage their individual and group knowledge.
The two-day workshop included lectures, games, and group activities which challenged the participants to discover and define the knowledge that they have. In addition, the question of how their knowledge can be effectively shared to their peers, colleagues, and community members was also raised.
Approximately 80 fellows and alumni from China, Nigeria, Thailand, and Vietnam, whose fields of study fell into different 30 disciplines, participated in this activity. Further information on the IFP program can be viewed at www.fordifp.org
